Thanks, Susan. I haven’t worked hard to assess the accuracy of my source. I found it by trying to verify someone’s claim that that she was worth a quarter billion dollars. I found enough evidence to support that claim so I used my source as my source (I love me a little redundancy!) because I thought it was neat. It shows AOC’s worth as 17k, which I’m sure is NOT accurate. But I think it focuses on stocks and so whatever process the site uses for determining wealth is simply not finding any for her. That wouldn’t surprise me. I think she still places more importance on her constituents than on her financial worth.
It occurs to me that China's authoritarianism probably has more domestic legitimacy than that of Russia or the USA since the country was lately very poor but now 'works' after the fashion of Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore, whereas in the contemporary USA, authoritarianism would probably mean doubling down on failure. The USA would be the weakest and most unstable link in the triad (which is otherwise strikingly reminiscent of Orwell's Eurasia, Eastasia and Oceania, by the way).
Thanks, and yes, there doesn’t seem to be any kind of movement for another revolution in China by any means. Something like 500 million people joined the middle class. They’re surely not eager to toss out the people responsible for that. And in fairness, it’s a genuine success.
Putin was popular, too. Russians are used to dictators, a condition that acted as its own form of authoritarian infrastructure Putin was able to feed from. The Ukraine war may be impacting his popularity some. That seemed apparent when Prigozhin seemed to be welcomed with open arms when it looked like he might march into Moscow. Prigozhin probably would have been an even worse kind of dictator than Putin if he had somehow prevailed.
Thank you, much appreciated, and thanks for the restack. It was long, and I kept finding grammar things that annoyed me, so I finally gave up and hit send, lol.
Seems like Democrats have a will to lose doesn't it. From Merrick Garland's dicklessness to Biden's dicklessness not removing him to Fani Willis's pathetically feeble self defense to Kamala being a pom pom waving Barbie Doll. Kamala was not left or center. Kamala was nothing. Trying to portray herself as an avid gun enthusiast made her look silly. Merrick Garland is in for a rude awakening when he finds himself on Kash Patel's hit list. All Fani Willis needed in her defense was to simply state Wade's hourly rate, number of hours worked and total amount paid to Wade and if the math adds up which was never in dispute then case closed. This was not a campaign this was a motherfucking war and losing was not an option for Democrats. If they think they are going to just settle in with this Insane Clown madman then they are all in for a rude awakening.
It's all so depressing... I wasn' aware that Pelosi was THAT rich. Ugh. Great piece with a lot of good-to-know history. :(

This is an extremely well-written, informative essay. 👏
