Very very interesting and informative. The Sandlers sound like their very wise Oaklanders (which believe me are usually totally underestimated) and it makes me so proud of my Easter Bay Californians....we are a very aware bunch of citizens and usually the first in most seeing and being involved in corruption at its finest . As well as the first to bring about awareness of the inequality within our borders . Because we are the first melting pot of beings ...believe me ... We remember May 69 and before but that was the time of true protest in freedom of speech and the end of the mandatory draft . For a few . But thx for info . I bow my head and hats off to the Sandlers they deserve it
I lived in Berkeley for a few years. Loved it. That's where I discovered Peet's coffee, lol. I wrote a fiction piece for my substack that was partially set in Berkeley, too. Thanks for the comment!
I do love ProPublica. I wasnt aware of their beginnings and now I love them even more. And this is a great opportunity...so many great writers on Substack. Thank you Charles.
Thanks for restacking it, too, Susan. ProPublica is providing a vital, badly damaged service with their local reporting. Locally, here in the Atlanta area, I’ve seen quite a few stories exposing corruption in Georgia, and in my old hometown area, Chicago. Texas and California, too. Hmm. This corruption seems to follow me around. I should look into this.
You're very kind. I'm in my mid-sixties recovering from a pretty severe stroke that, although didn't affect my cognitive thinking, put me in a physical battle for the ages. I'm winning that battle, but I definitely couldn't take something like that on right now. I wrote about my experience on that other platform (Medium):
At my age, though, I doubt I'd be interested anyway. Time for the kids to pick up the baton. Thanks again for those kind words, though, you're awesome.
I knew you had a medical episode but didn’t know what it was. I’m so sorry but also happy to know you’re winning the battle! Please take great care of yourself cause we need your thoughts! ❤️
That's the thing, I do take care of myself. Still happened! I've had extensive blood panels done and the docs can't even yell at me about my cholesterol or other things, and I don't drink. I exercise, maybe not quite enough, so I'm trying to get back on track, but now there are some unique challenges there. I love to take long walks but my glutes won't let me, lol. So I have to rehab my glutes of all things! Turns out, that's a common symptom for people recovering from this. Frozen glutes. I mean, come on, that would be funny if it wasn't such a pain in the ass. :-)
Most people aren't aware of a blood condition because phlebotomy is the cure....Hereditary Hemochromatosis . It is from our ancestors that hibernated they Western European states .Of course the AMA doesn't even want you to know if you have it since your worth alit more to them as a patient with organs damage or Dementia . It basically iron over load .And good luck on trying to find any food in the store without iron in it .But my husband was lethargic ,had a slow weight loss and appeared the Alzheimer's was setting in . I saw a African American woman with the same black /dk brown spits in her forehead as he had . After googling and lots of research . And a FERRATIN ..Iron binding capacity test (IBC) iron saturation (even though his iron level matabolic blood panel wasn't high , we discovered he had this . The Internist was surprised I was so adamant about demanding these tests . Come to find out he had inherited a gene from his mother (she was from Wales) but (this is bizarre ) he also inherited a gene from his father who was a American Native Indian . Right after we found this all out my grandson 24 had congestive heart failure . This disease is like a wildfire in a family .Yet it's a brush under the rug disease because again why would the AMA or a pharmaceutical co want you to know that plebitomy is the cure . Once diagnosed you can't sell your blood but ... phlebotomy is the cure. As bad as my husband wAs on nice the Dr saw the high FERRATIN , he ordered the Hereditary Hemochromatosis blood test and there was our answer . Too date he's had 42 plebitomys in 84 weeks . Every two weeks he has 500 ml. taken out and after about 8 draws he started coming back around . My grandson is a carrier . My daughter (his mom) has horrible thyroid issues but she sells her blood every week making money off her blood draws . Her other son who's only 5 , the bits are 20 years apart has been tested and he also has HH. The most alarming thing about this is the actual stays of humans in this world population is one out of every 7 people have this as one gene disease , 1 out of every 20 people in the world population have two genes meaning one from each parent. But again it's a hidden disease . Usually death is attributed to liver disease , cancer , pancreatic disease , and it's the major end cause of Alzheimer's or dementia . This disease isn't discriminated by any culture because let's face it humans migrated from Tibet to Africa and across the Serbian contint to Europe . The fact my husband's father was American Indian was what says it all ..I wish I could inform the public if this gaslighted disease that kills people everyday and it could have been prevented . A regular iron test or basic Chem panel will not show this . A FERRATIN LEVELshould be requested as well as the other tests In recommended. Had I not been a phlebotomist/ lab tech in the 70s-80s , In never would have pushed the Drs for this proof of a possible cure for my ailung husband . Men show this earlier than women and especially if your heavy red meat eater as we were but women menstruate so they loose blood which works until a woman is about 10 years after menopause. After finding this out I was tested (because of my grandsons diagnoses) ins had to pay for the test then . The test is about $185-$200. Although I'm safe , after telling my family about this ,we found out my 42 yr old nephew has it and he knows has been getting biweekly phlebotomy . We are all from German /Irish/ swedish ancestry .This disease isn't a death sentence because as if today my hubby gets to go from 2 week draws to every 8 weeks . His Ferratin readings when we started wre 2279 and he's down to below 50 trigger Ferratin level . With each draw hes buying longitivity . I hope this gives someone who's having brain fog or balance as well as health issues a second chance to demand from your Dr at least a possible cure for these health issues . Orange juice.. Vit C . Grapefruit juice is deadly .
red meat or animal organs a complete no no
Anything with iron . Absolutely no alcohol Veggies ..greens with iron are all killing you if you have this . Your bone marrow doesn't allow oxygen into your marrow making you have horrible feet , leg and feet problems . But most people die from cirrhosis or strikes from TRI and brAin problems . I have researched this to the point of truly believing too many people that could have been diagnosed and weren't is absolutely horrific. I hope this isn't your case but I can't read of someone having chronic health issues and at least had a honest conversation if a possible cure that's you can actually make money on as well as a less painful life . Also the disease is a major cause of mental illness . Believe it or not the suicide rate in HH patients is 65% . Think about that , no wonder so many people are so disoriented and yet no one does anything about the research in this disease . Believe it or not ..in the Western European States where they have free national health plans they test newborns so they can be constantly assessed for healthier life's. Here because we don't have a free national health plan ,they'd rather us die of horrible cancer and costly chemicals prescription so they can profit from a disease that can be treated and avoided by bloodletting . Pretty scary .
And I agree with Sandra ...Charles your nominated 🧐😉😉
Thanks! See my reply to Susan, but I'll add that I'll stick to my fiction writing. Much less stressful. :-)

I think you should look into it! And you would be an amazing writer for ProPublica…no kidding. ✌️

LOL Every year that I get older, theres a new "thing". UGH!
Hang in there, friend!!
Thanks. You too! Good luck avoiding “things” this week. :-)
