I'm an Illinoisan. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago and then lived in the city for over 15 years.
I moved to Republican central Illinois because of an employment opportunity. I live in "Representative" Derin LaHood's district. He's a shameless Trump sycophant, devoid of principles.
Pritzker is great. But folks here in central Illinois don't this so. There are yard signs that all but call for his execution.
Now, as to TX redistricting, generally speaking, it must be based on the 2020 census by which the existing maps were drawn and approved by the courts. Without evidence that the Republican's own "compact and contiguous" districts drawn on the 2020 census didn't meet that test, they must go to the courts, and say they were wrong to draw a map that gave Democrats a chance to win in five districts.
I'm an attorney pretty well-steaped in Constitutional law. My take is that the Republicans' sleight of hand map will be stumped by the lower federal courts before the 2026 election. However, If the Supreme Court of Trumpist enablers takes the case up on emergency application, the Republicans grip on Congress will be long-lived.
At times, I get very frustrated at legally analyzing these individual matters because they get obscured by the unprecedented volume of presidential litigation, seemingly all of which concern deprivation of civil and voting rights.
Thank you for the rundown on how the redistricting process**should** play out. That's an interesting detail that should matter.
Perhaps SCOTUS will refuse to add this case to their shadow docket, since the president won't be the one asking for the application, as he has no standing in the case (aside from his usual blathering). I suppose he could ask anyway, but I think even this court would ignore the request. Right? Right? (Slaps forehead)
Good question. Even if Texas Republicans find a way to pass their redistricting scam, there are other issues that the supreme court will have to blatantly ignore for them to actually move forward.
Good for them and Pritzker!
Thank you Governor Pritzker. ππππ

Thanks Charles! Youβre a kindred spirit!
Another thought. Redistricting litigation is a lengthy, complicated process in the trial court. It should burn a good amount of time.

I wonder where this all ends... With a bang or a whimper?

Yes!!
Thank you Governor Pritzker and Texas Democrats! Doing what needs to be done to call out GOP/MAGA gerrymandering.
