Hard to argue the unforced error point. They might want to rename the party to that.

You are a reasonable voice here. I think many feel stabbed in the back as we are so vehemently opposed to the cruelty the GOP seems happy to dish out. But it’s like…”when will all this meanness and absurdity end?” Evidently not for some time. 🙁

Thanks, Susan. Part of the problem, in my view, is that the Democratic Party at its core is beholden to corporate interests. I don't see raising our fists in the air against Senators who were elected by corporate interests as a particularly effective solution. As this post demonstrates, most of the eight are out of reach.

There are what, maybe 5 or 6 senators who we can say are reliably not corporate?

We could all fill the streets to demand Schumer's ouster, I guess, but that will cannibalize the Trump resistance, and I don't think we can afford to take our foot off the gas pedal there. That's ironic, of course, because that's exactly what the 8 senators just did. We had MAGA dead to rights, and they caved.

But it's done, so I think we need to move on, while primarying out who we can. Indivisible is working on that, so folks who feel especially pissed should contact them to see how they can help.

Conscious people will need to start doing the hard work of, at a bare minimum, voting in local elections and learning about candidates and running candidates who work for ***us*** instead of these massive companies.

This even means looking up local judges who are up for reelection. When I looked at the judges here, I thought, "Who the hell are those people?" I knew nothing about them. That has to change. Am I voting for a MAGA judge? A lot of times they are not affiliated with political parties.

If I skip the judges section of the ballot, am I withholding my support for someone who deserves it?

This is an ancient problem. But deep involvement in local elections is exactly what Republicans started doing 40 years ago. It's why they are on the verge of ending this American experiment.

They took over school boards, smaller city councils, and state legislatures.

There are no short cuts to a solution short of revolution, and I don't think people are truly prepared for that.

This means voters need to build a better bench at the lower levels so that the Chuck Schumers of the world don't surface to the top.

Unforced error imo. Democrats had the upper hand. One outcome is that ACA rates skyrocket and the GOP pays for it at the polls. A shame though, that it would come to that.

Restacked. If in 2026 I can throw a few bucks your way, consider it done ;-)
