Last Night at Madison Square Garden
There's nothing to say, only a video to watch
I was not one of the unfortunate political warriors who watched last night’s March to 1939 at Madison Square Garden, but I read enough to know it was a horror show.
When Tim Walz saw the guy making the garbage comment that insulted 5.8 million Americans, which I won’t dignify by repeating here, he asked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during their live stream on Twitch, “Who is that jackwad?” echoing the question of millions.
I can’t listen to these people anymore. I’m no longer concerned that they will win. That’s impossible. They lost huge chunks of the voting public with this one display of malevolence. The American public can be dense sometimes. But it’s not evil. This will not stand.
The other side has made a commitment to unfiltered racism and fascism, apparently thinking America is a small set of eastern German provinces.
It is not.
Others will have much to say about whatever that was last night. There’s been a lot written already. I don’t have much to add. I’m exhausted. All I’ve got is one of my favorite movie scenes at the end of this post.
I don’t know what these right-wing freaks think they’re going to accomplish with this brazen embrace of alt-Reich hysteria. But I do know this. Kamala will need an aggressive attorney general to deal with the fallout of this election.
She can’t think in terms of “unity.” The only path to unity is a zero tolerance policy toward racism.
There won’t be some kind of mass uprising when Trump loses. That’s their fantasy. It won’t happen. There will be a few nutcases and incels committing violent acts. That’s not an insurrection. That’s a bunch of losers with nowhere to go with their misplaced anger.
As for me, as I said, I’m exhausted. I need a rousing speech from Sam Gamgee to carry on:
That’s all I’ve got. But it’s enough. We will carry on. Victory is only eight days away, and, evidently, the freaks and weirdos on the other side know it. Maybe we should thank them for revealing their disastrous internal polling numbers in such a grotesque way.
Great clip from an epic film...thanks Charles. I didn't watch any of the MSG debacle. I wont watch that nonsense. Let's all hang in there.
Make America Hate Again
This wasn’t an accident. It was the point. It’s what MAGA was built on—a message to the white, the bitter, and the fearful that their ginned up anger is a rallying cry, a political stance, and a weapon. It's a promise that America belongs to them and no one else. It’s why Trump’s rallies don’t even try to reach beyond his hardcore base; the idea that America belongs to everyone goes against the grain of his entire campaign.
