“We live in Trumps world now which means I can be bought”! 🤣🤣🤣. Just a great piece. Thanks for all the good information. 👍🏻

Thanks! My line in the sand is centrism! I won't turn to the dark side for any price! :-)

Haha!! I’m right there with you!

Just as I didn’t vote for Biden in the 2020 election primaries, but did in the general, I won’t vote for Newsom in the 2028 primaries, but if he’s the candidate of choice, I will in the general.

Charles Bastille's avatar

Yeah, I’ll probably try to talk others into voting for Newsom and just vote for some fringy leftist myself, lol. But of course, I’ll vote for whoever the Dem candidate is in the general.

Great informative article, Charles. I had to look up the ‘hang the Chad’ meaning. That must have been such a Snooze Fest. 🥱🥱 Politics is such an ‘Old Boys Club’ and misogyny runs deep.

If I could vote, I would definitely vote for Gavin Newsom. I mean, look at those arms, and how gently he holds that sweet kitten. 💕💕 I mean, come on!!!

“In the Before Times’ cracked me up. Entertaining as always.

I had arms like that when I was young! Now it’s my head that looks like that! :-)

Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it.

Simple response. Nope. Only as a last resort if nominated.

Well, I’m basically the same. I’m sure I’ll end up voting for whoever is the fringiest lefty in the primaries, because I always do. I’m just saying that he’ll win, and he’ll be an effective force against Maga, so I’m fine with him. Notice the title was “The case for,” not “Case closed, vote for…”

I’ll go for lefties in primaries, but here’s the problem with Newsom and the problem with 2028 candidates now:

Focusing on 2028 candidates play into Republican hands . It identifies potential front runners and gives them over two years to attack that/those candidates.

We need to hyper-focus on 2026 or else there won’t be a 2028.

Newsom is just another corporate Democrat. He’s too cozy with investor owned utilities and when push comes to shove, we will bend to Big Oil.

The Republicans will portray him as a California Elitist and they will be right on that.

The registered and voting Democrats need to select the candidate, not the DNC, again. Newsom would be an easy DNC pick.

A record of winning general elections is a crappy way to choose the nominee. You can say the same about Biden (state AG, Senator, VP, President). You can say the same about Reagan (local water board, California governor x2, President x2).

Democrats already have the 2024 Harris voters. They need to focus on and win over those that went the other way or didn’t vote. And that means a candidate that can excite some of that group: younger males, Hispanics, northern white traditional Democrat racists that left the ballot blank as a choice better than a black woman, older white labor, Muslims that boycotted. Note Newsom could create an environmentalist litmus test backlash and boycott. Democrats cannot alienate any potential block.

I always picture the day Joe decided to seek reelection, Gav went home and kicked the dog and dropped F bombs all day! He's currently the potential front runner and the "Night in Shinning Armor," but I do feel we can do better. It takes a few things to win that he has, money and good looks. Great article!

Thanks. I have said it elsewhere that we shouldn’t anoint him just because the press is. But if he helps establish during the primaries a baseline of things we must do to bury the Maga cult, I think that’s a good thing. So in that sense, I will encourage him, but in all honesty, I always vote for the leftiest left lefty that is in the field, and I doubt that will change in the next primary. But I like how much he’s come to life in this battle.

I'm a huge fan of anyone who can destroy maga, root and branch.

Charles Bastille's avatar

That’s my litmus test this time around. As I said in another comment, though, Newsom may help establish that baseline in the primaries, such that they all promise to tear the thing down. I hope dem voters ask every candidate, “Who will your Attorney General be?”

How about an end-run around picking a candidate by having a coup now, before demented fingers push a civilization-ending button? Let's say Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Anne Applebaum, and Marianne Williamson. These are ones I follow, and there are other great women, too. And maybe more than four to do this. Just imagine such warm, intelligent, and human-loving individuals leading the way. If they state that they are taking charge, so many millions would be on the streets in Washington that I believe they couldn’t be thwarted.

Really solid electoral track record analysis. The undefeated streak is actualy pretty remarkable when looked at across different levels and contexts. I ran local campaigns years back and saw how rare it is for someone to consistently read the electorate that accurately. The pragmatism argument might sting for idealists but winning beats purity when actual power is at stake imo.

Charles Bastille's avatar

Thanks. As an idealist wishing for better, I agree. I guess that’s why I said my litmus test is someone who prosecutes the hell out of these people. I’m not interested in a “unity” government or reconciliation.

BTW Gavin Newsom's dad "worked" with notorious Nazi named Otto von Bolschwing.

Reagan's Secretary Helene Van Damme was a notorious Nazi that brought Nazis into powerful positions such as Otto von Bolschwing - partners to Gavin Newsom's dad.

Otto Von Bolschwing was an advisor to the Nazi Jewish office on Haavara and the final solution. He ended up in business with Gavin Newsom's dad in 1969.
