The Ultimate Ruminato Gift Giving Guide
The Starving Writers Association has a couple of ideas
Did you know you can buy Psalm of Vampires in hardcover and paperback for your favorite vampire-loving progeny, nephew, niece, mom, dad, or grandparent?
You have to go through Amazon to do it, so if you are boycotting Amazon, keep in mind that until we fix the system, you’re boycotting me, too.
Below, my friends, is an embedded preview link for my new(ish) “Buy My Books” page, now accessible through an exciting new menu item on the Ruminato website labeled “Buy My Books.”
I’ve recreated parts of it for this post.
Let’s start with Psalm of Vampires, a dark comedy I wrote while working on a bigger project (Restive Souls) that is still in rewrite-editing mode and may be forever.
Psalm of Vampires
Psalm of Vampires was published under my real name, instead of my pen name.
Psalm of Vampires is about a bible-thumping online vampire influencer who gets caught up in a mysterious set of killings and develops a buddy-cop relationship with a vampire-hunting Atlanta detective as they trot around the world trying to solve the crimes. Check out the blurb following the “where to buy” buttons for more info.
You can buy it by click/tapping on one of these buttons:
Note: If you don’t have Kindle Unlimited, the eBook is $4.99. If you have Kindle Unlimited, the Kindle edition is free.
Buy soon if you want the hardcover or trade paperback to arrive by Christmas.
If you’ve already read Psalm of Vampires, you can review it right here on Substack:
Trigger Warnings: Strong language, some graphic violence. Brief descriptions of grief involving pregnancy and child/family loss.
Consider Psalm of Vampires R-rated.

Kirkus Reviews calls MagicLand, “A bracing dystopian tale that deftly mixes magic, evolution, and romance.”
Feathered Quill says, “Bastille’s deftly-wrought prose is nothing short of sublime. The vivid world-building of artificial intelligence and magical creatures is breathtaking.”
Publishers Weekly informs us that “Bastille’s debut artfully combines magic, technology, and romance.”
BookTrib wrote: “MagicLand features a mashup of names, settings, and character references from fantasies like The Hobbit, sci-fi pop cultural icons like Star Trek and even the Bible. Like most great fantasies, this one also has an element of fatalistic romance.”
But my favorite review came from a reader via email. She wrote:
“Wonderful, clean, thoughtful and thought provoking. I will read this to my grandchildren ages 12, 8 and 4 and I know they will love it!!! I found your book in the city library and now I just have to get a copy for myself. Your book is of the same caliber as the writings of CS Lewis. I look forward to more from you.”
Order a bunch of copies for your school, church, choir, book club, and anyone else you can think of. MagicLand is a profanity-free zone suitable for all ages, so go ahead and order a few thousand copies without worry.
You can find short stories based on the MagicLand timeline right here (free for everyone) on Ruminato:

The characters and plots of each story are completely separate from the novel.
The blurb for the novel:
A feel-good dystopian novel? Welcome to MagicLand.
On a future Earth where magic and technology have been at war for two thousand years, can one kiss change the fate of the world?
When a young actor from Gath, Belex, crash lands outside the magic land known as Moria, he’s rescued by a young Morian priestess in waiting, Aurilena. The two find themselves drawn impossibly towards each other in the midst of a war between two distinct species of humanoids: her people, the magicians of Moria, and his people, the Gath, whose tremendous intellectual and physical capabilities are programmed into their DNA.
Together, the two discover a terrible secret that lies at the heart of the centuries-old conflict between MagicLand and Gath. It’s a secret that leads to a kiss that could end the war once and for all. The only question is, will it end in brutal violence or give way to an improbable peace between implacable enemies? The answer to that question may depend on whether Aurilena can discover the true source of power behind her unique gifts before it’s too late.
Those are my two novels currently available in a physical format you can use as a gift. For more eBooks, check out the “Buy My Books” page.
If you’re overwhelmed with the spirit of generosity this holiday season, there’s also this option:
As always, thanks for reading!
Stay tuned for my next post, coming soon, where I ask OpenAI if they’d be interested in a billion-dollar deal for the characters in my novels. I’ll settle for a million, Sam. I ain’t Disney, but I’m told that a lot of my characters are pretty interesting.
