The New York Times today called the Kamala candidacy wishcasting without taking any responsibility for the sanewashing of a candidate who should not have won more than ten percent of the vote.
The press loves Trump because he's such a volatile madman, he's certain to bring them viewers and readers. Ultimately, it's the press who have destroyed America. Profit over people. None of them have a sense of honor or duty. They are not legitimate or honest. Independent journalism is the only way to go now. Where did integrity go? :(
Reagan ended the fairness doctrine. You can trace the devolution of our main stream media to that. Between that and Citizens United, we’re in big big trouble.
Why ARE you up at 3am? 😂 And yes...I agree. Especially in our current day. Although I will say my dad was a newspaper man and I remember him always being very strict about facts. I think he was shocked when I had my ad agency, because while I made sure to be truthful, we were selling stuff! It seemed to be offensive to him...but he wasn't paying my rent, sooooo....
They live him because he increases ad revenue and they’re no more than a tabloid publication like The NY List with click bait headlines, just as has been WaPo. Cancelled both my subscriptions. I depend on Substack, BlueSky, MediasTouchNetwork and LegalAF other independent writers to keep us informed.
This is great, I quit NYT when these kind of articles began, first I wrote and complained, but that got nowhere. After subscribing for close to 20 years I cancelled them. Someone from the Times actually called me and asked me why, I did not hold my anger and disappointment at them for treating Trump as a viable presidential candidate after all the crimes he's committed. So now they have normalized and obviously condoned rape and treason. They can all rot in hell.
I get their newsletters still even after unsubscribing. But as someone who writes about the media (along with politics), I’ll probably succumb to one of their efforts to bring me back. I’m trying to hold out, though. Right now I lean towards, “What they have to say no longer matters.”
I’ve done without the WAPO just fine, and I cut off my subscription to the LA Times almost as soon as it was bought by a private equity superfund.
Nah, they’re a lost cause. Most of corporate media is now. The good news is they’re basically irrelevant. MAGA world doesn’t pay attention to them, just us, and why should we, since they’ve breached any implicit contract to actually report news. We need to stop wasting our breath on them, just focus on creating decent sources of news, like we are here.
I stopped my NYT subscription. I have read the Times for 61 years. They have become a piece of shit… birdcage liner. They have normalized a mentally ill narcissistic demented old man. They are useless.
Thank you for laying out in detail the journalistic malpractice the NYT committed- and has been for a long time - ever since Trump appeared on the scene. The sanewashing is just the latest iteration…
The so-called “mainstream media” is nothing more than a PR department for their corporate overlords. Journalism is hard work, so why do that when you can make billions writing puff pieces. That doesn’t require any effort or skill.
Kamala had already had a generous war chest of money that only she was entitled to, since it was Biden/Harris. Her loss was because so many people believe a woman could in no way be the Commander in Chief. Misogyny is built into the patriarchy even women subscribe to it. She lost because too many people did not vote. Ok, done done done with the why… how about HOW TO STICK THE WIN next time?
End dis and misinformation by taking hold of and controlling the public narrative with TRUTH.
Thanks for the comment. I’ve had long discussions with folks about the “whys” she lost, but at the end of the day, for me, the Dem candidate could have been Scooby Doo and should have won. Trump, in a normal society, would never have received 10% of the vote. It’s absurd that he got 78 million votes.
I came close to subscribing because it was discounted. But didn’t. Then last nite almost just subscribed for NYT word games. But didn’t. They don’t need my deep blue $$ to print more trash.
Yes, the press in this country has largely mutated into something unrecognizable as “news,” but why and how did this happen? The media became what it is because people allowed it to — they continued to watch and read. The media is a reflection of our society, and currently it illustrates how diseased our society has become. Continuing to blame particular institutions or individuals isn’t really constructive. We, as a nation, have faltered, even those of us who voted blue. The disease germinated decades ago. As a nation, we have done nothing to stop it from getting to this point. So, we all share responsibility in varying degrees. We have a lot of rebuilding to do and we need actual unbiased news (Opinions are fine if clearly labeled). We need open platforms without space limits for discussion and submission of proposed future amendments to the Constitution and laws regulating campaign financing, reorganization of governmental branches, term limits, judicial scrutiny and oversight, non-interference with voting, districting and elections, dismantling of the Electoral College, and the like. We need a new, coalition party and cabinet to “shadow” the party that is actually running the country. We need to be constructive and forward-thinking and to avoid squandering time and resources with constant complaints and critiques of the disease.

"The press loves Trump because he's such a volatile madman."
Indeed.
Imagine, though, if a madwoman came to the fore. They'd tear her apart.
No doubt you’re right. The sexism in this country (and evidently in France) is appalling.
Kari Lake and Tulsi Gabbard come most immediately to mind…

They likely had absent or compromised values all along. (Why am I up at 3 am!).

Sounds like an honorable man! Where’s my bong!
I just had a gummy! Haha ! Later😴😴

It went to the freaking bank, evidently.

I'm at a buck/week for the New York Times...Won't miss Wordle or Connections after I park the $1 on a Substack writer in 2025.
Why go back to the NYT?

Another example of a failed Fourth Estate

Glad I canceled my subscription. Jerks.
NYT is not fit to even use as crab paper! It’s a shame, we were taught in school that it was required reading to be an “informed” citizen.
Excellent, insightful and well sourced essay. First time reading you. It won’t be the last.

I stopped reading the NYT
I killed my subscription a few months ago, but I still get newsletters. I would unsubscribe, but I like to know what they're feeding their readers.
I quit when asked to subscribe because I’m retired & I’m over-subscribed until next spring.
The topic is being handled well.
I hope Kamala decides to run again when rules are in place that create ‘taxes’ on billionaires who want to buy the election for their candidates.

I killed my subscription a couple of years ago. Not going back. Thoughts and prayers.
