Trump's Mar-a-Lago Press Conference in One Infographic
Sometimes a picture says a thousand words
Like a lot of people, I’ve been highly critical of the New York Times’ coverage of the Mouth of Methane. They and the rest of the mainstream media have generally normalized him instead of consistently treating him like the felon/rapist/serial liar/sexual assaulter and con man that he is.
Another thing they typically do is let his serial lying enter the general discourse without challenge. So I’m happy to say today their coverage of his press conference at his imperial palace at Mar-a-Lago was different. Maybe claiming that nobody died during the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol was too much even for them.
The best way to demonstrate this improvement in coverage is with one graphic, which reveals extensive fact-checking, as highlighted by this paragraph from their coverage:
As is typical for the former president, his remarks were littered with falsehoods. He falsely accused Democrats of violating the constitution by replacing Mr. Biden on the ticket. He said nobody was killed on the Jan. 6 siege on the Capitol, when in fact several people died, including one Trump supporter, who was shot dead by the Capitol Police.
To their credit, they did all this during their live updates on the coverage of the press conference (free non-paywall link).
Take a look at the New York Times’ fact checks in the image below:
When they do it right, I’ll point that out, too.
