James Talarico is in a battle for the soul of Texas as Black Churches continue to wage their endless battle against police injustice throughout the South
Born and reared in Texas (I'm now in California), I have absolutely *loved* what Talarico has been doing, and seeing the rise of Black pastors (and, in Kansas, a pretty cool white 1) has been amazing. It's almost as if I can hear again the words to probably the first "hymn" I ever learned, that 1 about "red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight".
Thanks. Yep, it would be nice to see the fundamentalist mouths shut down. Most practicing Christians I know do it quietly, without making a big deal about it, and without judging others, but I don’t think fundamentalist christians (or any Abrahamic fundamentalists) are about religion at all. It’s all about dictating policies that control other people. Most of them practice the things they claim to abhor.
As a liberal Christian who believes in the two great Commandments:
1) Love the Lord your God with all your mind, heart, soul, and strength.
2) Love your neighbor as yourself.
I am dismayed at what the white evangelical church has become. The “prosperity gospel” is a man made religion that has nothing to do with God, and everything to do with money and power. Calling yourself a “Christian” when you hate the teachings of Jesus is the highest hypocrisy.

This doesn’t even slightly resemble the USA where I was born and lived my entire life, so far.
