I’ve written enough on the topic of racism and misogyny to fill a decent-sized book. Instead of reacting, yet again, to the mentally ill who helm the Republican Party or, worse, are now hoping to in the form of the Young Republicans, I’ll instead refer you to several of my previous posts, and hope one of them finds its way into the land of the unwell.
So my response is stuff I’ve already written, some of it before the election.
It’s very disturbing that younger people are ravaged by the same sickness that started a civil war a century and a half ago.
It’s disturbing that I have to keep posting this kind of thing. My fervent hope for white people, the people in my demographic, who think skin color is a relevant topic in the 21st century, is that they grow the fuck up, or, better yet, seek help.
Here’s a small sample from my previous rants. The first one, I think, is the most relevant, but they all matter.
No Colonoscopies From You, White Boy
I’m at the age where colonoscopies are as routine as your morning latte. In my case, the two often share a room. Don’t worry. This isn’t an article about colonoscopies.
UPDATE: I sent this post just before news alerts filled my inbox that the Supreme Court seems poised to gut what remains of the Voting Rights Act, and allow for white-based redistricting.
Wokeness, CRT, and DEI — A Primer for White People
I’m so white that when I walk outside on a day of newly fallen snow, I blend in like a chameleon. I’m part of the privileged class. If anybody should cheer on the current backlash against wokeness, it should be me. Hell, I’m Anglo-Saxon, best I can tell. With blue eyes.
If You’re a White Guy Like Me, It’s Easiest to Just Stay Silent
I’m in one of the few demographics considered safe under America’s new authoritarianism. I should have no cares in the world, no matter how much of it burns around me.
And a little fiction:
The Day the World Got Woke
Note: This is likely too long for your email application. Click the title to view it on the web or app. Thanks!
The only way to fight racism is to fight it, especially if you’re a white person.
No excuses. No backing down. Acknowledge that it is a mental illness, and take it from there.
If you’re in my demographic and you’re as sick of it as I am, all you can do is stick to one debate point: “This is not an argument over policy or politics. It’s a mental health issue.”

Here is a full list of ALL of the names and some of the pics of the Young Republicans involved in these chats — not only men, but women. Interestingly enough, they are all obese.

These Republican friends of J.D. Vance made racist comments about an Indian woman — Vance’s wide Usha is the daughter of Indian immigrants. Vance’s children are bi-racial (Indian and Caucasian). Vance won’t defend his own wife and kids.

"It’s a mental health issue.”
It is. And it will be the end of us.
Very good column...I had read all of these except the Labor Day, 2024 one, which brought tears to my eyes.
