Thanks, Nancy, that's an awesome reaction that I wasn't expecting! But I'll admit, I liked this character, and am thinking of expanding on him some, because he's a smart ass. I don't really like smart asses, but I don't mind them in fiction.

This line coming out of nowhere - seemingly apropos of nothing -nearly made me cough up a bonbon in surprise and wonder:
"My phone buzzed, revealing a news alert: “Deadly pathogen blamed for Rikers Island fatalities. 3500 feared dead.”"
And then I read on and the story became even more complex than I ever expected.
